What is this super food that is growing in popularity?
Matcha green tea powder is the harvested leaves of the green tea plants that have been shade grown, hand picked, steamed and air dried, de-stemmed and devined (for the premium ceremonial grade), and then stone-ground into a fine powder.
Because you are ingesting the whole leaf as a powder instead of brewing the leaves in water, matcha powder contains 10 times the antioxidants of 1 cup regular green tea (& 70 times that of Orange Juice)! Brewing green tea leaves only gives you about 10% of the nutrients from the leaf.
Matcha is traditionally consumed as a beverage – originally in Japanese tea ceremonies and now across the globe.
Research has found that matcha contains a catechin called epigallocatechin (EGCg). Catechins are highly potent antioxidants that have been associated with a number of health benefits including:
